Marathon #13 and Bib #13

On Sunday I ran the Maine Marathon in Portland, ME. This was my 13th marathon and I coincidentally had bib #13! It was a gorgeous day - partly cloudy and 40 degrees at the start warming up to about 50 degrees at the finish. We were so lucky to find the perfect AirBnB to stay in the night before and after the race. Our dogs absolutely loved it, and the location was close to everything including the start of the race. Portland is a beautiful place and the marathon really exemplified this. The course is out and back on rolling roads with excellent views, scenery, and support. It felt just like home after all my rural training runs in Vermont. I definitely don’t like running in big cities. My favorite part of the marathon was running for a few minutes alongside my Dad during mile 16. I wish we had a picture. Don’t let him tell you he can’t run because he could keep up with me at 7 minute per mile pace!

5k Perfection and Leg Speed

I decided to race a 5k last weekend (August 3rd) to test my summer fitness before fully transitioning back into marathon training for the fall. I ran this same race last year in 19:47, so I was excited to see if I could beat my time. I was very pleased with my pacing, and my time was 19:26. I have really been working on my leg speed/turnover, and this has helped with my stride and running efficiency.

Vermont City Marathon 2019

On May 26th, I ran the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, VT. The marathon was by far my favorite of the twelve marathons I have done - the excellent organization, the course variety (terrain/landscape), the great crowds/cheering, the ease of transportation/parking, the early start time (7:00 AM), and many other perks. I will definitely run it again!

Training & Half Unplugged #2

I hope everyone is having a good spring! It’s been awhile since I’ve done a training update. My target race is the Vermont City Marathon in May, and I have six more weeks of training. This training cycle I am giving a lot of focus to running my easy days slower so I can run my workout days faster. I ran the Half Marathon Unplugged this past weekend as a workout instead of going all out as a race since I have another half marathon coming up in three weeks. I absolutely loved this race and had a great experience!
