Training Update January 2019

We got ALL THE SNOW last weekend!! The storm total was around 2 feet, but some areas were closer to 4 feet due to high winds.

The storm led to lots of treadmill running, but I was happy to be inside away from the extreme cold and pretending I was running in Florida.

There have been some days I wake up, look at the weather, and want to do this:

But my goals and dreams get me up and out the door. Below is one of my favorite quotes I have been referring to on a regular basis. It makes cold and dreary days a little more bright and happy. The quote is from Headspace by Andy Puddicombe.

My running and training continues to go well as I gear up for a half marathon in 2 weeks. Here is my training for the month so far:

12/31/18 - 1/6/19

  • Monday: Rest

  • Tuesday: 9 miles easy (8:27 pace), 30 minutes swimming

  • Wednesday: 9 mile workout (2 mile warm-up, 6 x 1 km at 3:53 average with 2 minute recoveries, 2 mile cool down) - Treadmill

  • Thursday: 8 miles easy (8:56 pace), 30 minutes swimming

  • Friday: 9 miles easy (8:14 pace)

  • Saturday: 15 mile long run (6 miles easy, 3 miles at marathon pace, 1/2 mile recovery, 2 miles at half marathon pace, 1/2 mile recovery, 1 mile at 10k pace, 2 mile cool down)

  • Sunday: 9 miles easy (8:34 pace)

1/7/19 - 1/13/19

  • Monday: Rest

  • Tuesday: 9 miles easy (8:23 pace), 30 minutes swimming

  • Wednesday: 10 mile workout (2 mile warm-up, 6 mile wave tempo [alternating 7:15 and 6:45 pace every 1/2 mile], 2 mile cool down) - Treadmill

  • Thursday: 8 miles easy (8:38 pace), 30 minutes swimming

  • Friday: 9 miles easy (8:45 pace) - Treadmill

  • Saturday: 9 mile workout (2 mile warm-up, 15 x 1 minute fast [6:04 average] and 1 minute moderate [7:41 average], 2 mile cool down)

  • Sunday: 16 mile long run (8:23 pace)

1/14/19 - 1/20/19

  • Monday: Rest

  • Tuesday: 9 miles easy (8:22 pace), 30 minutes swimming

  • Wednesday: 10.5 mile workout (3 mile warm-up, 3 x 10 miles at 6:24 average with 3 minute recoveries, 2 mile cool down)

  • Thursday: 9 miles easy (8:14 pace), 30 minutes swimming

  • Friday: 9 miles easy (8:23 pace)

  • Saturday: 16 mile long run (10 easy miles outside then 6 on the treadmill with last 5 miles at 6:56 average)

  • Sunday: 9 miles easy (8:45 pace) - Treadmill
