Today I ran a 10k Turkey Trot and won a 20 pound turkey for being the first place female! We were getting pouring rain and then rain/snow mix up until 11:30 am, so I was thankful for the noon start time. I never run at this time of day and I was concerned about how my body would respond, but I found my groove after my warm-up and drills and strides. I had my typical oats, peanut butter and banana, and then a clif bar before the start, so my belly was happy even though the race went through lunchtime.
The course was very flat, but a bit muddy. Most people had dirt and mud splattered all over the back of their legs. I'm just glad it wasn't ice! The course was out and back, and there was a bit of a headwind after the turn around. The wind caused me to slow my pace a little, but I still finished strong. Here are my paces:
The turkey I won is from Stonewood Farm, which raises humanely cared for all-natural turkeys. I know the vegetarians out there would not be as excited, but I certainly am! Winning a pumpkin pie would have been pretty nice too :) My mom asked me, "Any there any races you can win Christmas trees?" That would be awesome! What a great idea. Any races you've run with fun prizes?
