I thought it would be fun to share everything I ate in a day. We eat a lot of food in our house and our grocery bill runs high, but we know how important it is to fuel our bodies well. No two people are the same and no two days are the same for me, so this is not necessarily exactly what you should eat in a day or what I have every day. However, it can be interesting to see what other people eat and might give you some ideas!
I try to eat a variety of foods with lots of different colors and a balance amongst the food groups. I know every day I should aim for 2+ fruits, 3+ veggies, 3 servings of dairy, whole grains and protein at each meal, and plenty of healthy fats. Other than that, I just listen to my body, eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full. You can find out what your food group targets should be here.
Furthermore, I think it is important to share my activity level. On the day I am sharing, I did a 6 mile run plus a 30 minute strength session. I also drink lots of water, but that's not pictured. I usually have a glass with every meal and snack, plus sips from my water bottle throughout the rest of the day.
Snack #1 - Pre-workout: 1/2 banana with peanut butter (Trader Joe's crunchy salted peanut butter with chia and flax seeds)
Breakfast - Post-workout: Overnight oats. The night before I mixed 1/2 a banana (the other half eaten above), oats, plain yogurt, and milk together and placed it in the fridge. In the morning, I added almond butter, cinnamon, frozen blueberries, and granola.
Snack #2 - Mid-morning: Trail mix (dried blueberries, cashews, almonds, and pistachios). I had about a handful of each.
Lunch: Hummus wrap and yogurt with pretzels.
Snack #3: A piece of lemon poppyseed bread from a local bakery plus an orange. I love Cara Cara oranges! They are red fleshed, but not as deep as a blood orange - closer to the color of a grapefruit.
Dinner: Pasta with pesto, chicken sausage, sautéed mushrooms and spinach, topped with parmesan cheese.
Dessert: A piece of chocolate. No chocolate for dogs - sorry Cassie!
